General Health & Wellness

Just like you, the kids or the family dog or cat, your horse should have an annual health examination as well. A thorough check of the eyes, heart and lungs, as well as a discussion about nutrition, deworming and exercise are all vital to ensure your horse's long term well being. During this examination, we may address issues or concerns you weren't even aware of. As a policy, we do a brief exam at the time of Rabies vaccination yearly - but any in depth issues can be addressed during a specific wellness exam.

A typical wellness exam may include:

Auscultation of (listening to) the heart, lungs and GI tract.

Ophthalmic Exam

Brief Oral Exam (sedation may be needed for a safe, more thorough exam)

Taking temperature

Assessing baseline digital pulses

Assessing weight

Discussion about deworming and nutrition

Identifying any new masses or skin issues

As of 2024, we will no longer be offering wellness plans. Not to worry though! The staff at PenMar are here to ensure your horse still receives everything they need on a yearly basis.
